An electro-optical modulator using an electro-optical crystal in the form of a compound of a solid solution of formula (NH4)xRb1-xH1-yDySeO4, wherein x and y are coefficients of concentration varying from 0 to 1 (rubidium or ammonium hydrogen or deuterium selenate crystals), to change the polarisation, phase or brightness of an incoming light beam by means of a low control voltage.
