METHOD FOR REDUCTION OF PICTURE SIZE

PURPOSE: To enable necessary image compression without distorting the total features of a document page. CONSTITUTION: This method is a reduction method for the image size of the document page and deletes any part of a low-information area deleted from one page, without exceeding the total ratio of the page deletion. An image is composed of plurality pixels, forming rows and columns. The deletion rate of the overall size of the image is determined first. Respective low-information areas which are below a predetermined maximum deletion rate are selectively deleted according to the total deletion rate, so that the formatting of the document image is maintained.
