METHOD FOR DETECTING BAND DISPLACEMENT BETWEEN PICTURES

PURPOSE: To space-interpolate a picture and to realigning it with the precision of a sub-pixel level by enlarging a phase correlation method and generating a displacement vector having precision which is more satisfactory than 0.5 of one picture element. CONSTITUTION: Sub-block values obtained from a Fourier coefficient and a reference frame are stored in reference frame storage devices 14 and 16 and they are corrected if need by using a space interpolation device 18. Namely, an input picture becoming the object of global displacement correction is inputted to a picture frame storage device 10 and the stored input picture is supplied to a phase correlation device 12. The Fourier coefficient and the sub-block value are inputted to the phase correlation device 12 from the reference frame storage devices 14 and 16, and the reference frame and the input frame are correlated. An output global displacement vector is obtained and an input picture frame in the space interpolation device 18 is corrected by the vector and displacement between the input picture frame and the reference frame is compensated.
