<p>The invention relates to methods of obtaining and keeping live food for decorative pets, especially aquarium fish. The invention in essence is a method of obtaining and keeping live food in the form of aquatic invertebrates with a long life span in closed environments. This makes transport convenient and requires no additional maintenance. For this purpose, the aquatic invertebrates, once selected and cleaned, are placed in packets made of a polyethylene food-wrapping film of 10-100 νm in thickness. These packets are then completely filled with a liquid habitat medium and hermetically sealed. The ratio of biomass of the aquatic invertebrates to the volume of liquid medium is based on the formula 10 ml of liquid per gram of biomass. The medium used can be ordinary mains, spring or distilled water. Antimicrobial and antispasmodic agents may also be introduced into the liquid, as well as solutions of alkali and alkaline-earth metals and dissolved nickel, copper and zinc salts.</p> |
