In a first connector housing A', a short-circuit contact piece 19 with an elastic strip 19c is provided positioned on the underside of a deflection space for a resilient lock arm 14. A short-circuit contact portion 19c3 of the elastic contact strip 19c is opposed to and spaced from a bottom wall of the deflection space. A portion 19d of the elastic contact strip 19c is opposed to the resilient lock arm 14, so that the elastic it can be deflected by the resilient lock arm 14. On a supporting frame 17 in a second connector housing B', a pair of terminal pins D" for detecting engagement are provided so as to be opposed to the short-circuit contact piece. As the first connector housing A and the second connector housing B are brought together, the resilient lock arm 14 is deflected to deform the contact strip 19C so that it does not make contact with the terminal pins D". When the housings are fully engaged, the lock arm 14 mates with an opening 16a and so releases the contact strip 19c into engagement with the pins D", the resulting short circuit signalling engagement of the connector.
