The device has a forming station (17), in which the sections (13) are formed by contact between forming rollers (26,27) and forming plates (23), after which they are further transported away. The forming station has at least two forming units (28,29) with forming tools, whereby successively conveyed sections into the forming station are alternately fed to the one and the other forming unit. Two forming units are arranged in a common, horizontal or slightly lowering plane next to one another, esp. next to a section path (20), whereby the sections by lateral movements are fed to the one or the other forming unit. The arriving sections are fed to a section holder - forming plate (23) in the area of the section path and with the holder are movable sideways to the one or the other forming unit.
