The clamping device (2) holds a pane of glass (1), eg. in a glass door. It may consist of an extruded section with a hollow portion and a groove (25), at the edge away from the glass pane, to accommodate fastening devices on the doorframe. The clamping device has one fixed jaw (3) and one movable jaw (4). The movable jaw has a groove (8) engaging a ridge (7) on a hinge member (6) on the side of the extruded section opposite the fixed jaw. A screw (9) in a threaded bore in the extruded section presses against the inner end (10) of the movable jaw, causing it to swing inward and grip the edge of the pane of glass. The inner faces (11) of the jaws are padded.
