Suction appts. for removing harmful or malodorous gases from surgical sites during laser or high-frequency surgery comprises a suction hood (2), pref. from transparent material, having an annular sealing (3), a suction connection (4) and at least one supply air connection (5). Surgical instruments (7), e.g. endoscopes, tubes, laser surgical instruments, are inserted through an opening (6) in the hood (2), having a slidable guide (12). The exchangeable annular sealing can be adapted to fit the body anatomy. Large areas can be kept clear of gases and smoke, giving good visibility of the surgical site, by pref. removing the gases through multiple suction openings (9a) in a suction channel (19) near the annular sealing (3).
