The invention relates to a filter arrangement for filtering particulate material out of flowing substances, such as air, some other gas or liquid, for example, so that the suction of the filter arrangement and the filtration efficiency remain constant regardless of the contamination. The arrangement comprises a filter chamber 1, which is designed with a cross-section essentially greater than the cross-section of the flowing, incoming substance that is to be purified, inlet pipe 2 so that the rate of flow of the flowing substance that is to be purified essentially diminished when the flowing substance leaves the inlet pipe 2 to the filter chamber 1. A moveable filter felt or the like 3 is arranged in the filter chamber 1, so that the flowing substance that is to be purified can at all times be led through a clean part of the filter felt 3. The filter felt 3 is designed to pass through one or more brushing or scraping stations 4 in order to remove solid particles caught in the felt. <IMAGE>
