An adjusting screw (30) is mounted in a bore (1,3) in the main body (10) of the tool. The screw (30) passes through a gear rack segment (20) which can move axially in the tool body. A threaded bush (24) is mounted on the screw (30). This bush is moved axially when the screw is turned. The bush engages with a clamping bush which is mounted in the gear rack (20). The clamping bush consists of two parts (25,26) which are screwed together. The end faces of the clamping bush are conical and incorporate longitudinal slots (24b). When the parts of the bush are screwed together, the play between the adjusting screw (30) and the bush is adjusted. The play between the gear segment (20) and the tool shaft (50) can be eliminated with a clamping screw (90) which incorporates teeth (91) which match the teeth on the gear segment.
