The invention relates to a thermal cut-off (1) which interrupts a current path passing through it when an ambient triggering temperature is exceeded, with a housing (2) from which project two contacts (3, 4) to form the current path via which a closed contact section on the inside (6) of the housing is bridged when the cut-off is not triggered, and with a heat-sensitive component (7) which, when the contacts is made, applies spring pre-tension to the moving contact (5) which, when the heat-sensitive component (7) breaks, interrupts the contact section owing to the force of a breaking spring (9) acting on it in the contact-breaking direction, in which the contact section has two fixed contacts (10, 11) side-by-side inside the housing (2), the contact surfaces (12, 13) of which are directed substantially towards the heat-sensitive component (7), and the moving contact (5) lies on the contact surfaces (12, 13) like a movably supported bridge component in relation to the two fixed contacts (10, 11) arranged side-by-side.
