A silver halide photographic material having a hydrophilic colloid layer containing a dispersion of fine solid grains of at least one compound represented by formula (1) <IMAGE> (1) wherein R represents an alkyl group, an aryl group, an amino group, an alkoxy group, an aryloxy group or a heterocyclic group; L1, L2 and L3 each represents a methine group; Y represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an alkoxy group or a halogen atom; R and Y may be bonded to each other to form a ring; and n represents an integer of from 0 to 2; provided that R, Y, L1, L2 and L3 do not have a group having an ionizable proton or its salt.
