PURPOSE:To improve NOx purification efficiency in a diesel engine exhaust and to reduce the generation of smoke. CONSTITUTION:A fuel reforming device is provided with a catalyst carrier 4 arranged in an exhaust pipe 3 of a diesel engine 1, a fuel reforming apparatus 9 decomposing fuel into low boiling point hydrocarbons, and a gas/liquid separating heat exchanger 8 separating the low boiling temperature hydrocarbon into a gas component and a liquid component, and the gas component is introduced into an engine intake pipe 2, while the liquid component is introduced into the catalyst carrier 4 as a reducing agent.
