PURPOSE:To obtain new dicyclohexyl-3,4,3',4'-tetracarboxylic acid useful for producing a polyimide having high heat stability and excellent transparency. CONSTITUTION:Dicyclohexyl-3,4,3',4'-tetracarboxylic acid of formula I. This compound of formula I is obtained by hydrogenating biphenyl-3,4,3',4'- tetracarboxylic acid tetramethyl ester by using a rhodmum catalyst to give dicyclohexyl-3,4,3',4'-tetracarboxylic acid tetramethyl ester and then hydrolyzing this compound. Dicyclohexyl-3,4,3',4'-tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride of formula II useful as a raw material for a polyimide resin is obtained from the compound of formula I. |
