A composition suitable for processing comprises at least one ethylene copolymer derived from alpha -olefins having 2 to 8 carbon atoms and alpha , beta -ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acids or derivatives thereof, and a rheology improving amount of at least one compound having a polar functionality. Examples of suitable rheology improving compounds include low molecular weight acids and their derivatives, polyhydroxy compounds, and a low molecular weight acid containing polymers. In one particular embodiment, the present invention relates to ionomers of the ethylene polymer and in particular, ionomers derived from ethylene alkyl acrylate copolymers. Moreover, specific examples for suitable rheology modifying compounds includes lactic acid and ethylene-acrylic acid copolymers. |
