A smoking article (10) contains a flavor component retainer obtained by heating and gelling a mixture of a flavor component and a non-gelled glucan and containing heat-irreversibly gelled glucan, and a flavor generation material containing the flavor component retained by this retainer as a combustion smoking raw material (12).
