<p>PURPOSE:To produce chlorine from hydrogen chloride under mild conditions with a fuel cell system and to supply power, if necessary, by bringing a hydrogen receptor and hydrogen chloride respectively into contact with one and the other electrodes of an ionic conductor provided with a catalytic electrode. CONSTITUTION:An anode compartment 3 having an anode 1 (catalytic electrode) and a cathode compartment 4 having a cathode 2 (catalytic electrode) are separated by an ionic conductor 5 (protonic conductor), and an anode 1 and a cathode 2 are short-circuited through a lead wire 6. Hydrogen chloride is supplied to the anode as a gas, for example, and a hydrogen receptor, e.g. oxygen molecule, is supplied to the anode 2. One or more kinds of metals, metallic compds. and conductive carbonaceous substances are preferably incorporated into the anode 1 and cathode 2.</p> |
