PURPOSE: To maintain utility of the surgical instrument for coagulation and aspiration, by adjoining an electrical insulating layer and an conductive layer at the area of a material placed at the tip near the instrument, maintaining electric current between electrodes positioned at the area, and supplying powder to the affected part of a patient. CONSTITUTION: An electrode assembly 10 of the bipolar electrolsuorgical has an electrode 12 made of a 20-gage hollow needle and a second electrode 14 formed as a conductive layer deposited around the external surface of the electrode 12. A thin electrical insulator insulates along the length of the electrodes 12 and 14 in the longitudinal direction in order to prevent a short-circuit. The electrodes 12, 14 coaxially extend along the longitudinal axis 18 to the tip 20 of the electrode assembly 20 from the center of the electrode supplying bipolar current, and when the instrument is placed under operating condition, electric current flows in the affected part of the patient between the electrode tips 22 and 24 for cauterization and other surgical operation. The electrode 12 has the narrow tip 22 exposed only at a face 23 of a tip 21 of the instrument to the tip 24 of the electrode 14, and electric current between the electrodes 12, 14 flows only between the space W of the tip 22. |
