PURPOSE: To obtain a medicinal composition capable of inhibiting Alzheimer's disease by containing a benzothiophene derivative as an effective ingredient. CONSTITUTION: A compound of the formula [R<1> and R<3> are each H, CH3 , CO-(1-6C alkyl), CO-alkyl; R<2> is pyrrolidino, hexamethyleneimino and piperidino] or its salt and its solvate as an effective ingredient. The compound of the formula increases manifestation ofβ-transforming growth factors (TGF-β) in brain and, thus, inhibitsβ-amiloidpeptide-mediated neurotoxicity or inflammatory response associated with Alzheimer's disease. The Alzheimer's disease is a degenerative cerebral disease characterized with progressive losses of memory, recognition, reasoning, judgment and emotional stability and cured by administering the compound of the formula. The compound is formulated in a form of an elixir, a solution and an injection and the dose is 0.1-1000 mg/day.
