The case has an upper plate (6) which holds the articles (1). This has holes through which pass wires or cords (5) fixed to the articles. The other end of each wire is wound on a pulley by a spring and these are in a ball (2). When the article is handled by a customer the wire is unwound from the pulley. If the wire is broken it is completely rewound on the pulley and the ball drops, cutting an electric or infra-red beam (10) in the base of the case that activates an alarm.
