A hollow plastic part (1), that has to have mechanical resistance, is made by pressure moulding two half shells (2,3) each with assembly flanges (4,5) and joining them along these flanges. After assembly a second pressure moulding step is carried out to form a reinforcing channel (15) around the two assembled flanges (4,5). ADVANTAGE - A simple, quick, low cost mfg. method c.f. lost core moulding. Also overcomes weakness of bonding or welding half shells that can reduce strength to 15-20% in joint area and gives consistent mechanical strength. |
