In a wheel type continuous casting machine the peripheral casting groove 15, Fig. 3, formed in the wheel, is lined with a thin metal member 16 which defines in conjunction with a belt 28 the mould cavity 9. The lining support is formed by an annular member 14 comprising two mating halves 14a and 14b which are held together by side plates 13. Annular passages being provided in the member 14 for the flow of coolant. In the assembled position the liner 16 is retained in the peripheral groove by screws 18 which grip the lip portions 12 of the liner. The liner is made by spining a flat sheet (R), Fig. 4 (not shown), welded to form an endless ring and secured to a former (25) which is of a shape corresponding to the shape of the peripheral groove. The liner may be formed of a multi layer sheet, the layers being bonded together.</p> |
