The panel of an aircraft windscreen 11 is attached to a supporting structure 20 by bolts 21 each of which passes through apertures 23, 24 in the screen and structure 20 with clearance, the panel, comprising a laminate structure having a metal strip 19 which is countersunk with a part spherical surface 28 to accommodate a corresponding shaped cup washer 27 of a lowfriction material with a high crushing strength e.g. of nylon impregnated with molybdenum disulphide, and which is also countersunk to receive the head of the bolt 21, and likewise the nuts 26 are self-aligning with metal cup washers 29 between the nut 26 and a plate 31 on the structure 20 and between a reinforcing strip 15a on the windscreen and the structure 20, the whole arrangement permitting self-adjustment of the windscreen 11 to flexure of the structure 20. A pair of flexible sealing gaskets 32, 33 are fitted between the edge of the windscreen panel and the structure 20, one on the inner side and one on the outer side of the bolts. A strip of glass cloth 30 may be interposed between the washer 29 and the structure 20.</p> |
