<p>A compound containing an Si-H bond is reacted, in contact with chloroplatinic acid catalyst, with an organic compound containing terminal carbon-carbon olefinic unsaturation, except acrylonitrile, said Si-H compound and organic compound being free from acidic and basic groups, and groups which in the presence of a hydroxyl group will produce acidic and basic groups, whereby addition of the Si-H group to the carbon-carbon unsaturation takes place, said reaction being effected in the presence of a compound containing a hydroxyl group, which may be the organic reactant, in contact with a buffer which in an aqueous system will maintain the system at a pH of 5-7 even in the presence of a strong acid. The hydroxyl-containing compound may be water or an alcohol and the unsaturated compound may contain silicon. Specified buffer solutions are alkali metal hydroxides and potassium acid phthalate, sodium acetate, secondary sodium citrate, mixtures of potassium acid phosphate and disodium acid phosphate and mixtures of potassium acid phosphate and sodium hydroxide. The organosilicon compound may be a silane or a siloxane and may be substituted by saturated and unsaturated hydrocarbon radicals, halohydrocarbon radicals, substituted hydrocarbon radicals, e.g. hydrocarbon ether radicals, hydrocarbon ester radicals, hydroxylated radicals, amide radicals, nitrile radicals and radicals containing carbonyl groups. The unsaturated compound may be an olefinic hydrocarbon, an alcohol, an ether, an ester, a halo-olefin, an amide, an aldehyde or a ketone.</p> |
