PICTURE RECORDING MEDIUM AND ITS REPRODUCTION METHOD

PURPOSE:To attain special reproduction over a wide range by recording address information of a head sector of a high efficiency coding picture to an independent frame area so as to detect an access destination easily at a high speed. CONSTITUTION:Independent frame access information N representing an address of a head sector of an area in which an independent frame I of picture information is recorded together with control information X and an absolute sector number Y is stored to an independent subcode area provided to each sector of a picture recording medium and used to store a signal not interleaved with a signal of other recording area. An address of a head sector of an area in which an independent frame of other group of picture GOP in the vicinity of the current independent frame is stored is stored as the information N and an offset from a current address. In the case of special reproduction, an address of a head sector of an independent frame to be read succeedingly is calculated based on the independent frame access information to be read and on the read independent frame access information to access the address.
