A hospital waste treatment unit incorporates a transverse shredder (5) inside an autoclave (6) which is sepd. from the outside by an upper inlet and a lower outlet with seals and equipped with steam injection inlets (8, 9), air suction outlets (10, 11) and water sprinklers for washing, connected resp. to a steam generator, a vacuum pump and a potable water supply. The unit also has a pipe system for delivering and removing liqs., and a washing circuit.
