PURPOSE: To send an item reflecting the content of electronic mail by searching electronic mail in-basket with respect to the item received from an address to which the electronic mail is to be sent and providing a searched information. CONSTITUTION: A data processing system 8 has a local area network 10 and a plurality of networks 32 each having individual computers 12a, 12b, 12c, and 12c and 30a, 30b, 30c, and 30d. Each computer can be connected to a storage device 14 and a display printer/output device 16. The user of each computer in the system 8 can store various kinds of addressable documents or software applications in the storage device 14. The device 14 is connected to a main frame computer 18 through a communication link 22 and the documents or applications are stored in a storage device 20. The storage device 20 can also be connected to a gateway server 28 through a communication controller 26 and a communication link 34.
