The process comprises a definition of the transmission spectrum (12) including rejected wavelengths (14) corresponding to the absorption spectrum characteristic of a particular gas or mixture of gases. A Fourier transform is applied to the spectrum to obtain a transmission function in terms of phase and amplitude which allows the fabrication, using optical material transparent to infrared rays, of a filter of the same characteristic. The filter so constructed can be used to identify, at a distance, the presence of a particular gas in an observed space. |
