Bolt lock 1 for a door or the like, which lock interacts with one or two lock cylinders and comprises a lock housing 2, a lock plate 3, a bolt 4 which can be displaced through the lock plate 3 to and fro between a locking position and an open position, at least one operating spindle 5, to which a lock cylinder can be connected, which cylinder can be operated by a key and operates in only one direction of rotation, and also force transmission means for bringing about force transmission from the operating spindle 5 to the bolt 4, said force transmission means comprising a rack element 8 which is mounted on the operating spindle 5 and can be displaced to and fro in the lock housing 2. Mounted on the operating spindle 5 is at least one piece 6 which comprises a pinion part 9 limited to one sector. Said rack element 8 comprises rack areas 10a, 10b arranged at a distance from one another in the longitudinal direction of the lock plate 3, so that said piece 6 can be mounted between said rack areas 10a, 10b, the pinion part 9 of the piece 6 being arranged so as to interact, during its rotary movement, with one or the other of the rack areas 10a or 10b in order to displace the bolt 4 from one end position into another. <IMAGE>
