<p>A container (10) and method for transporting finely divided coal in rail cars or other cargo hauling vehicles, the container (10) having a generally flexible and substantially oxygen impermeable barrier (12) defining an encapsulated cavity (11). A port (14), including a coupling (16) adapted to substantially prevent exposing finely divided coal to oxygen is positioned in the container (10) for passing flowable material through the barrier (12). The container (10) also includes a cap (18) for sealing the port, and a harness (30) for supporting the barrier (12) and defining the shape of the cavity (11). The method generally having the initial steps of removing most of the oxygen from the cavity (11) of the container (10), and adjusting the shape of the cavity (11) to conform to the type of rail car that is being used to haul the finely divided coal. The method includes additional steps of filling, sealing, loading, hauling, unloading, and emptying the container (10) where the coal is used.</p> |
