Disposal of organic waste, esp. food

Disposal of organic waste, e.g. food residues, kitchen waste and residues from food mfr., comprises mixing water with sewage sludge and introducing mixt. into anaerobic digester in conventional sewage treatment plant. Waste is comminuted and homogenised and/or heated to temp. below 100 deg.C and/or treated to remove inorganic materials before being mixed with sludge. Residence time in digester is at least 12 days. Digested mixt. is heated to at least 100 deg.C.
