A condenser dryer recirculates drying air after it has passed from the rear to the front of the drum through tubes 5 of a condenser 6 after having passed through a mesh 4 on leaving the drum. The mesh prevents fluff build-up but nevertheless some fluff accumulates in condenser 5, and for this reason it must be regularly cleaned. To provide a warning of when cleaning is required and to encourage cleaning by the user, an alarm is provided which is operated after the dryer has been operated for the appropriate period, and the alarm is reset by means of e.g. a rocker switch 8 which may be located under a removable panel 7 via which access to the condenser is made. <IMAGE>
