Safety device making it possible to prevent the sliding door 2 of a motor vehicle from being opened beyond the excursion zone of the flap 4 of the fuel tank, when the latter is in the open position. It comprises a detector (5, 6) for detecting the open or closed state of the flap 4 interacting with a stop device 7 for the guide carriage of the door 2 in a rail, so as to block the said carriage upstream of the excursion plane of the flap 4 when the door is moved into the open position.
