1,129,835. Glass fibre manufacture. OWENSCORNING FIBERGLAS CORP. 22 Dec., 1965 [23 Dec., 1964], No. 54371/65. Heading C1M. [Also in Division B3] In making a steam feeder for glass a body of platinum alloy is welded as a projection. to a plate of platinum alloy, the body and/or plate being provided with a protruding ridge, the ridge or ridges defining, at least when the body and plate are interengaged, a resultant ridge extending in a closed loop, the body and plate being engaged and current being passed to fuse the resultant ridge. In making a glass or other heat softened material stream feeder a number of elongated bodies 14 of platinum alloyed with rhodium and possibly gold and each having an enlarged head 16, Fig. 7, provided with an annular ridge 18 are welded to a plate 10, Fig. 1, of platinum and rhodium alloy and the bodies are then drilled to provide stream flow passages. The elongated body may be of rectangular section with a rectangular ridge and a modified plate may provide the raised ridge to engage a plane end of the elongated body. In other modifications the elongated body and plate are each provided with spaced projections which intermesh to form a closed area or each have interengaging annular ridges. The plate may have an aperture to receive the shank of an elongated body having a circular ridge to engage the plate.
|
