<p>An electrical connecter for providing interconnection between one or more printed circuit board panels 27 and external electrical components comprises a one-piece plastic body member 11 having a plurality of spaced-apart, contact-receiving apertures each of which has a narrow cavity region 15 and a shoulder cavity region 17 communicating with the narrow cavity region 15 and cooperating therewith to define an offset shoulder surface 16. Electrical contacts are disposed in the apertures, each contact including a terminal portion 41, a shoulder portion 42 and an active contact portion 43. Each portion of the contact is shaped to correspond to the configuration of the corresponding cavity region in the connector, whereby the press fit of the terminal portion 41, the shoulder portion 42, and a plurality of raised ridges 45 provided on the shoulder portion 42 of the contact define an irregular constricted and circuitous path through the aperture to provide an essentially liquid impervious juncture. Thus the insulating liquids coated on the printed circuit boards 27 and the associated connectors are unable to seep or wick into the active contact portion 43. <IMAGE></p> |
