1,055,351. Assembling nuts and washers. ILLINOIS TOOL WORKS Inc. Aug. 26, 1963 [Sept. 11, 1962], No. 33745/63. Heading B3A. [Also in Divisions B8 and F2] Mechanism 10 for assembling together articles such as nuts 12 and washers 14, comprises means for feeding the nuts and washers along a path of travel to bring respective pairs into alignment and means for then permitting the nuts to drop into partially assembled relationship with their respective washers. The washers 14 are carried in pockets 32 of a rotary disc 28 and the nuts, which have bottom spigots 20, are fed down a shoot 42 and transferred by pockets 38 in a second rotary disc 34 to a station 40. During transfer the nuts are supported on a plate 50 until they drop into a slot 60 and become partially assembled each with a washer, Fig. 3 (not shown). Continued movement of the discs brings the nuts out of slot 60 when it drops further into full assembly with its washer, Fig. 5 (not shown). Subsequently the nuts or washers are deformed to provide a permanent connection. |
