The present invention is a gas/fluid contactor for reacting water and other fluids with an ozone-containing gas, for use in a fluid decontamination system. The contactor comprises an elongate tubular reaction chamber (6) having a gas/fluid combining chamber (8) adjacent the inlet to draw an ozone-containing gas into the device and to provide an initial mixing between the gas and the fluid. One or more diffusers (14) span the interior of the reaction chamber, each comprising matrix of glass particles having a diameter between 0.1 to 2.0 mm. An off-gas collector (10) is provided at the exit of the reaction chamber to draw off gas not entrained within the treated fluid, for recycling within the decontamination system.
