To monitor the internal state of the cuvette in an atomic absorption spectrometer, a video camera (16) is arranged to be capable of viewing the inside of a cuvette 10 within its sample furnace 2. Retractable mirrors M4 and M8, which are insertable simultaneously in the measurement path 7 to direct the radiation around the cuvette and along a reference path 13, may be utilised. A further mirror (DM1) is connected mirror M8 so that when only mirror M8 is inserted, the further mirror (DM1) is moved into path 7 to deflect light from the interior of the cuvette to the camera (16) via a further mirror (DM2). Light from 2 sources may be combined by mirror M3 and pass though monochromator 9 to a photomultiplier detector 12. <IMAGE> |
