The device in accordance with the invention concerns a clamping device for roof-mounted load carriers for vehicles the roof structure of which comprises an upwardly projecting sheet metal flange (4) extending in the lengthwise direction of the vehicle and designed to be gripped by a foot member arranged on said load carrier. In accordance with the invention the lower part of said foot member is designed in a manner similar to that of a pair of pincers and includes jaws (14, 15) arranged to engage the sheet metal flange on either side thereon, a hinge (16) disposed closely above the sheet metal flange, and arms (12, 13) above said hinge, at least one (13) of which arms is arranged for pivotal movement together with its corresponding jaw (15) about said hinge (16), a pincer arm actuating mecanism (17) being arranged, by acting on the arms (12, 13), to bring about mutual pivotal movements of said arms (12, 13), thus forcing the jaws to either close on said sheet metal flange (4) or to disengage said flange. |
