<p>PURPOSE:To obtain a new beta-L-iduronic acid derivative useful as a constituent component for heparin, heparin sulfate, etc., existing in connective tissue in an organism by subjecting a 5-C-halogeno-alpha-D-glucuronic acid derivative to free radical reduction reaction. CONSTITUTION:This new beta-L-iduronic acid derivative of formula I (R<1> is a lower alkyl; R<2> is a hydroxyl group-protecting group; R<3> is an aliphatic or aromatic acyl) (e.g. methyl-1,2,3,4-tetra-O-acetyl-beta-D-glucopyranuronate) of L- iduronic acid as a constituent component for heparin, heparan sulfate or chondroitin sulfuric acid B, etc., existing in connective tissue, cartilaginous tissue, tendon, cornea, arterial wall, etc., in an organism. The compound is obtained by subjecting a 5-C-halogeno-alpha-D-glucuronic acid derivative of formula II (X is a halogen) to free radical reduction reaction.</p> |
