PURPOSE:To obtain an aromatic hydrocarbon from a lower paraffinic hydrocarbon in high yield and selectivity by using a gallium silicate catalyst having low silica content. CONSTITUTION:A 2-5C lower paraffinic hydrocarbon such as ethane, propane, butane, pentane or their mixture is converted into an aromatic hydrocarbon by heating the hydrocarbon at 300-650 deg.C in the presence of a gallium silicate catalyst having a composition of Sr/Ga=15-25, OH<->/SiO2=0.3-1.0, H2O /SiO2=30--100, R/(R+alkali metal)=0.05-0.15 and NaCl/H2O=0.01-0.06 (R is a quaternary alkyl ammonium cation; alkali metal is Na or K) and produced by adding a metal salt [Ga2(SO4)3.8H2O], a nitrogen-containing organic cation, an inorganic acid, an aqueous solution of silicate and an ion controlling agent, subjecting the obtained gel to hydrothermal synthesis and baking the product. |
