A roller bearing has a, closure member 16 comprising an inner flange 17 arranged on a rib 13 of the bearing inner ring, a radially extending body portion 18 folded back at its outer end 19 to form a bead, and an inwardly inclined outer flange 20, the end 21 of which has a running clearance with the rollers 14 and the raceway of the outer ring 10. As shown, an annular pad 22 of resilient material is bonded to the outer flange 20 and engages the end face of the outer ring 10 and the bore of the housing 11. The inner end face of the pad 22 may be undercut (Fig. 2, not shown) to provide a more resilient projection engaging the outer ring 10, or the pad 22 may be of channel section (Fig. 3, not shown). The pad may be impregnated with or covered with lubricant or may consist of grease or other lubricant which maintains the required shape. A flinger (27) (Fig. 4, not shown) may be included, the pad being located between the outer part (28) of the flinger and the outer flange (20). |
