PURPOSE:To provide an observing method for molten metal surface in a mold, by which the whole molten metal surface can be observed even in the case the mold width varies or to the large size mold in a continuous casting equipment. CONSTITUTION:When the mold 1 width varies, the reference value of the positions of a camera 5 and an optical source 6 beforehand obtd. based on the mold width and the camera height to the original mold width and the variating quantity of the mold width are compared. Based on this difference of the variating quantity, the position of the camera 5 or the position of the camera 5 and the optical source 6 are changed and the picture is taken through slide mechanism in the width direction of the mold. Further, the molten metal surface picture in the mold is taken with the camera at a prescribed position to the mold width. The abnormality of the molten metal is treated in a three- dimensional picture from the obtd. picture and the picture changing the camera position or the camera angle and the camera position in the same mold width, to discriminate the abnormality based on the picture after treating. |
