PURPOSE:To provide a method to use a catalyst having high activity and selectivity for production of unsatd. alcohols without containing harmful cadmium or the like by using a catalyst containing yttrium as the main component and magnesium as an assistant component each in a form of oxide. CONSTITUTION:Unsatd. alcohols are produced from unsatd. aldehydes by the hydrogen transfer reaction with alcohols. In this method, a catalyst containing yttrium as the main component and magnesium as an assistant component each in a form of oxide is used. The reaction temp. used depends a little on the kind of unsatd. aldehydes as the source material and alcohols and is 100-500 deg.C, preferably 200-400 deg.C. If the reaction temp. is <100 deg.C, the reaction rate of unsatd. aldehydes decreases. If the temp. exceeds 500 deg.C, by-reaction such as decomposition increases to decrease the selectivity. Further, the reaction pressure is preferably from normal pressure to 5kg/cm<2> for vapor phase reaction and 10 to 100kg/cm<2> for liquid phase reaction. |
