PURPOSE:To produce a sheet-like catalytic layer which has high adhesion strength and keeps a constant water repelling property in order to suppress the wettability of an air electrode at the time of discharging at high load and to provide an air cell with excellent discharging properties by utilizing an activated carbon with high specific surface area as a catalytic material and using the catalytic layer for the air electrode. CONSTITUTION:A catalytic layer 4 is composed of activated carbon with large specific surface area (e.g. carbon having a spherical- or chain-shape, 3000m<2>/g or larger specific surface area, and 10-40mum particle size), manganese oxide, carbon black, and fluororesin powder. To form the catalytic layer into a sheet, the materials are kneaded with ethyl alcohol and formed into a sheet by leading the resulting kneaded mixture into two rollers heated to 30-80 deg.C and thus a catalytic layer sheet with high adhesion strength is produced. |
