摘要 PURPOSE:To widen the angle of field to obtain an excellent picture quality and to obtain a sufficient light transmittance without requiring a high driving voltage which brings about hysteresis. CONSTITUTION:A liquid crystal layer 3 is held between an array substrate 1 and a counter substrate 2 which face each other in parallel, and an orientating film 12a which orientates adjacent liquid crystal molecules out of all liquid crystal molecules in this liquid crystal layer in a first prescribed direction is formed on the substrate 1, and an orientating film 12b which orientates adjacent liquid crystal molecules out of all liquid crystal molecules in a second prescribed direction is formed on the substrate 2, and plural electrode lines 11 which are set approximately in parallel with the first prescribed direction for the purpose of changing the direction of the whole of liquid crystal molecules at the time of giving a potential difference to two adjacent lines as a pair are formed at intervals of a prescribed length on the substrate 1 so that they are coated with the orientating film 12a and are insulated from one another, and further, ununiform distribution is given to the constraining force with which the orientating film 12a constrains the direction of liquid crystal molecules between each pair of electrode lines 11a and 11b.
