PURPOSE:To provide a potential setting method of high accuracy and reliability at a low cost. CONSTITUTION:A photoreceptor 11 is made to be in a noncharged state, a developing bias value Eb is set to a prescribed reference developing bias value, to develop the photoreceptor 11 in the noncharged state and obtain a toner image and its density is measured with a density sensor 14 to store the value of the measurement as a reference density value. Then, the developing bias Eb is set to a value different from the target potential of the photoreceptor 11 by the reference developing bias value, to develop the photoreceptor 11 and obtain the toner image, its density is measured by the density sensor 14 and the grid voltage Eg of an electrifying scorotron 12 is controlled to make the value of the measurement to be the reference density value, so that the potential of the photoreceptor 11 is set to the target potential. |
