PURPOSE:To prevent damage to the surface of an image carrier by setting the rotation of a developing unit so that when the developing unit rotates, all sealing members move with their base ends always positioned more downstream than their free ends. CONSTITUTION:The sealing members 93, 93R, and 93B for preventing developer in a developing position from scattering are provided for developing devices 3, 3R, and 3B, respectively, and are unmovably fixed to the main body of the developing unit, that is, the casing member 5 of the developing unit 1 at their base ends. Also, the sealing member 93 is positioned so that the free end of the sealing member 93 of the developing device 3 occupying the developing position abuts on the surface of a photosensitive drum 11 over the entire length in the longitudinal direction. The direction of the rotation of the developing unit 1 is set so that when the developing unit 1 rotates, all the sealing members 93, 93R, and 93B move with their base ends always positioned further downstream than their free ends. |
