PURPOSE: To obtain a controller in which the total viewing time of a wire television channel can be limited by applying a channel timer which can be used by a viewer to limit the time period during which the viewing of a specific channel is permitted within a designated time. CONSTITUTION: A programmable cable controller 20 accepts a term and period inputted by operating a remote controller 30 by a viewer. A channel timer is provided for tracing the displayed elapse of time of a wire television, and the display of a cable channel to a display 26 is stopped when the present terms comes. When the channel is switched, a time remaining in the channel timer for the channel is displayed on a television receiver. The channel timer is reset when the present term comes to an end. Plural channel timers are set for limiting the display times of plural channels. Also, the channel timer is protected with a password for preventing unauthorized switching.
