PURPOSE:To provide a liquid crystal display device and a process for production thereof capable of improving a visual field angle characteristic in all visual angle directions without degrading a display grade and producing the liquid crystal display device at a low cost without increasing the number of production stages. CONSTITUTION:A region (B) where the pretilt angle on a base substrate 1 side is large and a region (A) where the pretilt angle on a counter substrate side is large coexist within one picture element. The oriented film on the base substrate 1 side is formed by stirring and mixing >=2 oriented film materials and applying a mixture in a nonuniform state on the substrate.
